Austin Votes on Prop 1

Prop1

We have received numerous calls and questions concerning the coming prop 1 vote and wanted to share a little more information. Yes, the verbiage is confusing but read it in its entirety and keep in mind the author of what you are reading. As for the National Fingerprint Database they speak about, keep in mind that there is no true “national database”. The closest you get to something like that is county and state databases linked up to load all information into one database. Also the fingerprinting information is compiled from arrest and not a conviction, so someone can have information in there and never be convicted of a crime. Read a little more on Prop 1 below or check out their website HERE. Yes, this information is from a “For” site.

For

Keeping ride sharing in Austin!

  • Tough and comprehensive safety checks, paid for by Uber & Lyft.
Uber & Lyft’s driver screenings are run by a nationally accredited background check provider, that checks national, state and local criminal databases.
Oversight from the Austin Transportation Department to hold ride sharing companies accountable.
Helping prevent drunk driving in Austin and surrounding neighborhoods.
According to the Travis County Sheriff, DWI collisions decreased by 23% after ride sharing came to town.
Safe rides for all Austenite’s across the city.
The ordinance requires ride sharing companies to have a presence in neighborhoods that are currently under served by other transportation options.
Ride sharing companies like Uber & Lyft would contribute 1% of their annual local revenue to the city.
Supporting over 10,000 Austenite’s who earn extra income as ride sharing drivers.

Against

  • Replacing the current, comprehensive safety checks that ride sharing services use with a new system run entirely by the City of Austin.
The criteria for banning drivers is “to be determined” according to the Austin City Ordinance No. 20151217075.
Austin taxpayers could pay for background checks the City wants to conduct.
Fewer Austenite’s will earn extra income through ride sharing because of bureaucracy, not because they are unqualified or unsafe to drive.
Longer wait times and higher prices for riders in Austin.
